Softball Recap: Newark Memorial Triumphs

After losing to Burlingame the last time they met, Newark Memorial decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Newark Memorial Cougars walked away with a 7-4 win over the Burlingame Panthers on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Ariana Romo was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Romo was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Mahlyah Sao was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Andrea Tall was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

Newark Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burlingame only posted a batting average of .321.

Newark Memorial now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Burlingame, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newark Memorial will head out to take on Alameda at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Burlingame, they will head out on the road to challenge Valley Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
