Basketball Game Preview: Highland Park Giants vs. Deerfield Warriors

Having just played yesterday, the Highland Park Giants will head out on the road to face off against the Deerfield Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Highland Park will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

While Highland Park didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Maine East by a score of 54-43 on Friday. Given the Giants' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Blue Demons are ranked 503rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Deerfield hadn't done well against Evanston recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Deerfield secured a 46-40 W over Evanston. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly six points.

The win made it two in a row for Deerfield and bumps their season record up to 5-3. As for Highland Park, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Highland Park was dealt a bruising 59-32 loss at the hands of Deerfield in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Highland Park avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
