Basketball Game Preview: Newark Catholic Green Wave vs. West Jefferson Roughriders

Newark Catholic is on a six-game streak of home wins, while West Jefferson is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Newark Catholic Green Wave will welcome the West Jefferson Roughriders at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Newark Catholic saw some tournament action on Thursday. They walked away with a 56-46 win over Mechanicsburg. Given the Green Wave's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 176th, while the Indians are ranked 362nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newark Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Madison Hampton out in front who went 5-for-8 en route to 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals. With that strong performance, Hampton is now averaging an impressive 2 steals per game. Sophie Chard Peloquin was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Newark Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, West Jefferson got the win against Shekinah Christian on Saturday by a conclusive 65-42. The Roughriders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 20 points or more this season.

West Jefferson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Newark Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 15-7.
