Baseball Recap: Alton Comes Up Short

Monday just wasn't the day for Alton's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins on Monday. The Redbirds have struggled against the Griffins recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Alton's defeat dropped their record down to 13-8. As for Father McGivney Catholic, the victory (which was their 19th in a row) raised their record to 21-2.

Looking ahead, Alton will head out to challenge Edwardsville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Redbirds 3.7, the Tigers 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Father McGivney Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Maryville Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Griffins' favor as the squad sits on 24 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Lions have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
