Softball Game Preview: Sunnyside Blue Devils vs. Rincon/University Rangers

The Sunnyside Blue Devils will head out to challenge the Rincon/University Rangers at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sunnyside has four straight victories, Rincon/University has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Sunnyside beat Marana 5-1.

Ashley Rosthenhausler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Soleil Ponce, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple. Another player making a difference was Kasandra Alcaraz, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

Sunnyside hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Rincon/University came up short against Tucson High Magnet School on Monday, falling 17-1.

Rincon/University saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jianna Cota, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Rincon/University's loss dropped their record down to 5-15. As for Sunnyside, their win bumped their record up to 18-6-1.

Sunnyside took their victory against Rincon/University in their previous meeting on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
