Softball Game Preview: Hoxie Mustangs vs. Rivercrest Colts

The Hoxie Mustangs will head out to challenge the Rivercrest Colts at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Rivercrest will be up against a hot Hoxie squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Mustangs blew past Harrisburg 11-5 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Rivercrest got the win against Newport on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colts.

The team relied heavily on Zoiey Fox, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Routledge, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Fox wasn't the only one making solid contact: Rivercrest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

The win got Rivercrest back to even at 6-6. As for Hoxie, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Hoxie skirted past Rivercrest 4-3 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
