Baseball Recap: Normal West Has No Trouble Against Urbana

While Normal West put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Urbana. The Wildcats blew past the Tigers 18-0. With that win, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Ryder Coone looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Normal West got a massive performance out of Chase Knuth, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Knuth a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Drew Hart, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Normal West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.

The victory made it two in a row for Normal West and bumps their season record up to 9-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Urbana, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Looking ahead, Normal West will head out to face off against Bloomington at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Urbana, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Schlarman at 4:30 p.m.
