The Parkview Patriots will take on the Concord Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Parkview has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Parkview's offense. They came up short against Benton on Tuesday, falling 15-0. The loss continues a trend for the Patriots in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost seven in a row.
Parkview saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauryn Foster, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Concord came tearing into Tuesday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Longhorns as they made off with an 11-1 win. Considering the Pirates have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
L Cornett spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, M Balentine and L Brackett did most of the damage at the plate: Balentine went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Brackett went 3-for-4 with five RBI. Those three hits gave Brackett a new career-high. Another player making a difference was K Devers, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Concord kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in five consecutive games.
Concord's victory bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Parkview, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Parkview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've averaged .425. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
