Football Recap: Loyola Academy Starts Season with Win on the Road

Loyola Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 21-14 win over the Merrillville Pirates on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Ramblers, who have now won 12 contests in a row dating back to last season.

Michael Hill Jr and Mikel Smoot certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Hill Jr threw for 247 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Smoot rushed for 60 yards.

Merrillville's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Loyola Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against St. Francis at 7:30 p.m. on the 12th. As for Merrillville, they will face off against Crown Point at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give the Pirates their first taste of in-conference action this season.
