Independence had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 74-71 win over the Hickory Ridge Ragin' Bulls on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Ragin' Bulls: they've now won three in a row.

Independence got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Christan Jones out in front who shot 55% from the field to rack up 21 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lusemo Macharia, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.

Coming up, Independence will challenge Minor at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hickory Ridge, they are headed away from home for the first time to square off against Lake Norman at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
