Softball Recap: Oswego Comes Up Short

Oswego managed to slip by East Syracuse-Minoa the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Buccaneer came up short against the Spartans on Friday, falling 9-2.

Maria Sweet put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Oswego's defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4. As for East Syracuse-Minoa, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Coming up, Oswego will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Central Square at 6:30 p.m. The Buccaneer's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Redhawks have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for East Syracuse-Minoa, they will challenge Liverpool at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Warriors' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Spartans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
