Football Game Preview: Holy Name Green Wave vs. Lake Catholic Cougars

Holy Name hasn't had much luck against Lake Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Green Wave are taking a road trip to face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Holy Name 14.5, Lake Catholic 11.9) so any points scored will be well earned.

Holy Name got their first taste of in-conference action on Friday and they started things off strong. They strolled past Elyria Catholic with points to spare, taking the game 24-7.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter and that's exactly how it played out for Lake Catholic on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Padua Franciscan out of the water with a 30-0 final score. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 67th, while the Bruins are ranked 321st).

Holy Name better keep an eye on Danny Zmorowski. He was instrumental in Lake Catholic's win, rushing for 173 yards and one score while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Zmorowski showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 59 yards. Max Pisano also helped with two touchdowns in total.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Lake Catholic proved: they limited Padua Franciscan to a paltry 0.8 yards per carry. Lake Catholic's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.58 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 6.6 on average over their last five games.

The victory made it two in a row for Lake Catholic and bumps their season record up to 6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 28.0 points over those games. As for Holy Name, their record is now 5-3.

Holy Name was dealt a bruising 35-3 defeat at the hands of Lake Catholic in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Green Wave were down 28-3.
