Basketball Recap: James Fields' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Burney over CORE Butte

Burney came up into this matchup off a tough 31-point loss last Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the CORE Butte Lynx by a score of 48-45 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lynx this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 42-32 back in January.

Burney lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was James Fields, who posted 18 points and eight rebounds. That was a full 40% of Burney's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Germaine Maldonado was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Burney has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season. As for CORE Butte, their win ended a 15-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-18.

As of now, neither Burney nor CORE Butte have any future games scheduled.
