Basketball Game Preview: Tempe Prep Knights vs. Phoenix Country Day Eagles

Tempe Prep hasn't had much luck against Phoenix Country Day recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tempe Prep Knights will look to defend their home court against the Phoenix Country Day Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Tempe Prep is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Santa Cruz Valley on Friday as Tempe Prep made off with a 50-25 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Knights have posted since January 8, 2024.

Meanwhile, Phoenix Country Day waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They strolled past the Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 48-29. Given Phoenix Country Day's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Horizon Honors is ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Phoenix Country Day is also on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points per game. As for Tempe Prep, their win bumped their record up to 3-13.

Tempe Prep took a serious blow against Phoenix Country Day when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 61-12. Can Tempe Prep avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
