Softball Game Preview: Commerce Red Raiders vs. Hampden Charter School of Science

The Commerce Red Raiders will take on Hampden Charter School of Science at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Commerce has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Commerce is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Putnam Vo-Tech on Wednesday as they made off with a 23-14 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Red Raiders.

Commerce got a massive performance out of Gianna Perez, who fired off two home runs, three stolen bases, and five runs while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. Those five runs gave Perez a new career-high. Vanessa Rios was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one home run, four stolen bases, and five RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Commerce lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are 2-1 when they post two or more home runs.

Meanwhile, Hampden Charter School of Science unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 19-5 to Pope Francis Prep.

Hampden Charter School of Science's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Commerce, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
