Baseball Game Preview: Lower Merion Aces vs. Springfield Cougars

The Lower Merion Aces are taking a road trip to square off against the Springfield Cougars at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lower Merion was handed an eight-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Penncrest 3-1. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Springfield and Ridley meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 11-1 win.

Jack Rae tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Danny Meakim was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Owen Keough was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Springfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

Springfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Lower Merion, the win got them back to even at 7-7.

Lower Merion was able to grind out a solid victory over Springfield when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aces since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
