Basketball Recap: Arionna Banks' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Millington Central over Munford

Millington Central and Munford squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Millington Central had to settle for second. They fell 48-37 to the Munford Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, with their most recent defeat being a 49-38 loss back in January.

Millington Central's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Arionna Banks, who posted six points in addition to 14 rebounds and four blocks. The dominant performance gave Banks a new career-high in boards. Alissa Carpenter was another key player, putting up six points along with six assists and five rebounds.

Millington Central's defeat dropped their record down to 20-12. As for Munford, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-9.

Millington Central and Munford could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. Millington Central (ranked 152nd) will meet Dyersburg (ranked 15th) at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Munford will take on South Gibson on Saturday down 177 places (216 vs. 39).
