Recap: Independence Patriots vs. Copper Canyon Aztecs
The Independence Patriots's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their 11th straight defeat. They were the victim of a tough 50-29 defeat at the hands of Copper Canyon. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Independence in their matchups with the Aztecs: they've now lost four in a row.
Bri'ann Felix continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Copper Canyon, almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine steals. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Felix has scored at least a third of Copper Canyon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zalaya Dupre, who scored nine points along with seven steals and six rebounds.
Independence dropped their record down to 1-16 with that defeat, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.7 points per game. As for Copper Canyon, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-11.
Independence will be playing at home against the Roughriders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Copper Canyon, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Rams at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Washington is ranked 173rd, while the Aztecs are ranked 183rd).
