Basketball Recap: Patel Takes a Loss

Patel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were dealt a 52-18 defeat at the hands of the Sports Leadership & Management Spartans. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Trailblazers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-40 back in December of 2024.

Xiomari Matthews was Patel's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Mugdha Pillappa held things down on the boards with five rebounds.

Sports Leadership & Management found their leader in sophomore Skylar Payne, who went 11 of 22 on her way to 26 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Those seven assists gave Payne a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayrevelis Rivera, who posted eight points in addition to nine boards and four steals.

Patel's loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Sports Leadership & Management, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-12 record this season.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate the next time they take the court. Patel will head out to face Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Sports Leadership & Management will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
