Recap: Santa Ynez Pirates vs. St. Joseph Knights

The Santa Ynez Pirates lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They were dealt a 103-41 defeat at the hands of St. Joseph. Santa Ynez was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 68-19.

Jude Pritchard and Mason Skidmore certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Pritchard scored 13 points, while Skidmore scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Mendoza, who scored six points.

It was another big night for Tounde Yessoufou, who scored 33 points along with eight assists and six rebounds for St. Joseph. It was the first time this season that Yessoufou posted eight or more assists. Julius Price was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight assists and four steals.

Santa Ynez has not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. As for St. Joseph, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 22-2.

Santa Ynez will look to defend their home court on Friday against Arroyo Grande at 6:30 p.m. Santa Ynez is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season. As for St. Joseph, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against San Luis Obispo at 6:30 p.m. on January 31st. St. Joseph knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 matches -- so hopefully San Luis Obispo likes a good challenge.
