Softball Recap: Peoria Lions vs. Danville Vikings

Peoria had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-6 to make it 12. They lost 21-0 to the Danville Vikings. The Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Danville, the win got them back to even at 8-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Danville's part, Deana Linares was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Linares has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.

Looking ahead, Peoria will head out on the road to face off against Peoria Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Danville, they will take on Normal Community at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Ironmen will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Vikings surely won't give up without a fight.
