Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Mountain View

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Canutillo, Mountain View was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They strolled past the Chaparral Lobos with points to spare, taking the game 44-29. The win was all the more spectacular given Mountain View's disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 1285th in Texas, while Chaparral is ranked 125th in New Mexico).

Mountain View can attribute much of their success to Devin Gonzalez, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds. What's more, Gonzalez also racked up two blocks, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Deurice Goss was another key player, putting up four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Mountain View has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-13 record this season. As for Chaparral, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-11.

Mountain View will face off against San Elizario at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Chaparral, they will square off against Varsity Opponent at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
