Recap: McDowell Titans vs. South Caldwell Spartans

The McDowell Titans fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the South Caldwell Spartans on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 78-75. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Wednesday (62), McDowell still had to take the loss.

Rylan Parkins and David Olivo certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Parkins scored 16 points, while Olivo scored 15 points. The contest was Parkins' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Eli Elliott, who scored 12 points.

McDowell's loss dropped their record down to 10-2. As for South Caldwell, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.

McDowell will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against North Buncombe at 8:00 p.m. North Buncombe knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 contests -- so hopefully McDowell likes a good challenge. South Caldwell's road trip will continue as they head out to face Watauga at 8:00 p.m. on January 12th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Watauga is ranked 145th, while South Caldwell is ranked 162nd).
