Baseball Recap: Union Pines Comes Up Short

Union Pines was the 8-6 winner over Western Harnett when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Union Pines Vikings fell just short of the Western Harnett Eagles by a score of 8-7 on Wednesday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Union Pines got a good showing from Dominic Inocencio, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Inocencio has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Jacob Williams was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those runs were his first of the season. Brodie Lyczkowski was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

Union Pines' defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Western Harnett, the win snapped their losing streak at eight games dating back to last season and leaves them with a 1-7 record.

Coming up, Union Pines will head out on the road to face off against Scotland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Union Pines is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season. As for Western Harnett, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Westover at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Western Harnett is facing Westover at the right time seeing as Westover is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
