Baseball Recap: Alonso Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Alonso, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They skirted past the Gaither Cowboys 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Julian Batista tossed a big game, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Alonso's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Alonso saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Campos, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Those two hits gave Campos a new career-high.

Alonso is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. Gaither's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.

Coming up, Alonso will venture away from home to challenge Plant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Alonso's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Plant's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Gaither, they will be playing at home against Leto at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
