Recap: Canyon Springs Cougars vs. Lakeside Lancers
The Canyon Springs Cougars can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent match on Monday. They put the hurt on Lakeside with a sharp 72-51 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Canyon Springs also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Canyon Springs' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Derek Williams, who scored 24 points along with seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Rojo, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Lakeside still got an impressive performance from Maurice Turner, who scored 26 points along with two blocks. Turner is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Andrew Knudson, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Andre Dorseau, who's played more minutes than anyone else on the Lancers squad sat out for Monday's game. With Dorseau sitting this one out, Chanze Goree got some extra time on the court (21 vs. his season average of 9.67).
Canyon Springs pushed their record up to 16-10 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.7 points per game. As for Lakeside, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-15.
Canyon Springs will head out on the road to challenge Vista del Lago at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Canyon Springs is facing Vista del Lago at the right time seeing as Vista del Lago is stuck on a eight-game losing streak. As for Lakeside, they will be playing at home against Summit at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Summit has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
