Soccer Game Preview: Sanford vs. Cheverus

Sanford is 1-6 against Cheverus since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out to challenge the Stags at 3:30 p.m. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Sanford is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Biddeford on Thursday. The Spartans fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 2-1. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since November 4, 2020, but that streak is no more.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Cheverus' offense. They came up short against South Portland on Saturday, falling 6-0. Cheverus haven't had much luck with South Portland recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Sanford's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8-1. As for Cheverus, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.

Sanford might still be hurting after the 5-1 defeat they got from Cheverus in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
