Great Oak and Norco are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but likely not for long. The Wolfpack will take on the Cougars in a tournament on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Great Oak is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since March 5, 2024 on Thursday. They skirted past Paloma Valley 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolfpack.

Great Oak saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Fien, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Norco had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Bearcats.

Norco also got a great performance from Landon Hovermale as he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk).

Norco pushed their record up to 8-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Great Oak, their win bumped their record up to 3-8.

Great Oak came out on top in a nail-biter against Norco when the teams last played back in February, sneaking past 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolfpack since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
