The MaxPreps Cup is determined by ranking all schools that win a state
championship or finish second at the state level (or section level if there is
no state competition).
Points are also weighted, rewarding states that have a large number of schools, as well as more
points to schools that compete in larger enrollment divisions. Sports
are also weighted differently, with football and basketball, among
others, receiving more points than sports like golf and tennis.
Teams
are also given points for being ranked in the Xcellent 25 football, boys and girls basketball rankings and
volleyball rankings, the MaxPreps soccer computer rankings, the DyeStat national cross country rankings, and the Intermat national wrestling rankings.
