Softball Recap: Central Bobcats vs. Fairfax Stampede
Central had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-17 to make it ten. They lost 21-0 to the Fairfax Stampede. That's two games in a row now that the Bobcats have lost by exactly 21 runs.
As for Fairfax, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by ten runs or more this season.
For Fairfax's part, Emma Saiz was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. Saiz has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Alexa Quiroz was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. Lily Fryberger also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
