Basketball Game Preview: Burke Bulldogs vs. Benson Bunnies

The Burke Bulldogs will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on the Benson Bunnies at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Burke's tournament run continued when they took on Grand Island on Monday. Burke walked away with a 57-50 win over Grand Island. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Burke got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Michael White out in front who posted 13 points along with eight boards and four blocks. That's the most blocks White has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Buchanan, who put up ten points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Benson hadn't done well against Bryan recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Benson blew past Bryan 97-53. With the Bunnies ahead 54-32 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Benson's win came from a few key players Burke will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Goanar Bamach, who shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Antonio Carson Jr. was another key player, going 9 of 12 on his way to 22 points and three steals.

Burke now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Benson, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1.

Burke came up short against Benson when the teams last played back in January, falling 70-65. Can Burke avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
