Basketball Recap: San Elizario Takes a Loss

San Elizario lost against Ysleta back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The San Elizario Eagles fell just short of the Ysleta Indians by a score of 43-41. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1004th, while the Indians are ranked 461st).

Ysleta's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Azaiah Thompson, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 boards. That makes it 18 consecutive games in which Thompson has scored at least a third of Ysleta's points. Another player making a difference was Donovan Martinez, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

San Elizario has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-18 record this season. As for Ysleta, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 19-10.

San Elizario is taking a road trip to challenge Fabens at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ysleta, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Clint at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Ysleta's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Clint has been banged up by eight consecutive losses on the road.
