Preview: Southwest Patriots vs. Academy for Classical Education Gryphons
The Southwest Patriots will be playing at home against the Academy for Classical Education Gryphons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Southwest humbled Kendrick with a 36-8 victory. The victory was just what Southwest needed coming off of a 50-16 loss in their prior matchup.
Carmelo Mays was the offensive standout of the contest as he picked up 201 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Mays' longest reception was for an incredible 85 yards.
Meanwhile, Academy for Classical Education had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 48.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against Rutland as Academy for Classical Education made off with a 34-14 win.
Kaleb Scarbary looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 171 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 passes, while also punching in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Brice Whitley, who picked up 83 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Southwest's victory bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Academy for Classical Education, their victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1.
Southwest was taken down by Academy for Classical Education 62-28 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Will Southwest have more luck at home instead of on the road?
