Softball Recap: Santa Fe Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Santa Fe, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Ball Tornadoes by a score of 4-1 on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-3 back in March.

Aubrey Withers tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Katelynn Torres, who scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Mallory Richardson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Santa Fe has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Ball, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-18.

Looking ahead, Santa Fe will take on La Porte at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Indians' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Ball, they will host Angleton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tornadoes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season.
