Football Recap: Carson Watkins and Nolen Pauling Secure Win for Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 44-20 margin over the Penn Wood Patriots. Considering the Bulldogs have won five games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Jersey Shore's win came down to the chemistry between Nolen Pauling and his top target Carson Watkins. Pauling threw for 196 yards and four touchdowns while Watkins picked up 71 receiving yards and three scores. Those three receiving touchdowns gave Watkins a new career-high. Jersey Shore also got a significant boost from Bo Sechrist, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Jersey Shore, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Carter Rhinehart, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

One reason for the win was Jersey Shore's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Talyn Lope, Brayden Swales, and Chase Ellison, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Jersey Shore's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Penn Wood, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Jersey Shore will venture away from home to face off against Scranton Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Penn Wood, they will head out to take on Chester at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Patriots will need to watch out since the Clippers have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups.
