Basketball Recap: Wickenburg Comes Up Short

Wickenburg came up into this matchup off a tough 47-point loss last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Kingman Academy Tigers by a score of 51-49 on Thursday. The Wranglers have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Wickenburg still got an impressive performance from Nick Formica, who shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. Formica is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Jimmy Garcia was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Even though they lost, Wickenburg was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Wickenburg's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Kingman Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Wickenburg and Trivium Prep will dust off their jerseys to face off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Kingman Academy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Highland Prep West at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
