Softball Recap: Olive Branch Victorious

The Olive Branch Conquistadors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over the Bruce Trojans on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Conquistadors.

Makayla Jamison made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendyl Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Cedajah Woodson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Olive Branch's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Bruce, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-6.

Looking ahead, Olive Branch will look to defend their home field on Monday against Horn Lake at 6:30 p.m. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.73 runs per game on average), something the Conquistadors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bruce, they will head out on the road to take on Myrtle at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
