Softball Game Preview: Carbondale Area Chargers vs. Lakeland Chiefs

The Carbondale Area Chargers will venture away from home to take on the Lakeland Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Carbondale Area is coming into the matchup on a seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Last Thursday, Carbondale Area came up short against Dunmore and fell 5-2.

Riley Pietrowski spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up 14 Ks.

Meanwhile, Lakeland had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past Hanover Area 15-7 on Saturday. The Chiefs not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 5, 2024.

Carbondale Area's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Lakeland, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.

Everything went Carbondale Area's way against Lakeland in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, as Carbondale Area made off with a 17-3 victory. Will Carbondale Area repeat their success, or does Lakeland has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
