Baseball Game Preview: Volunteer Falcons vs. Grainger Grizzlies

The Volunteer Falcons will head out on the road to challenge the Grainger Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Volunteer's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 win over Claiborne. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Grainger came into Saturday's game having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past Eagleton College & Career Academy 11-5 on Saturday.

The team relied heavily on Josh Walker, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Taylor, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Walker wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Grainger kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matches.

Volunteer's record is now 5-11. As for Grainger, their record is now 4-10.

Volunteer came out on top in a nail-biter against Grainger when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Does Volunteer have another victory up their sleeve, or will Grainger turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
