Basketball Game Preview: Morrow Mustangs vs. Newnan Cougars

The Morrow Mustangs will head out to challenge the Newnan Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Morrow is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57 points per game this season.

Morrow will head into Saturday's game out to bounce back: they won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They had to suffer through a 75-31 loss at the hands of Ambassador Christian School. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 242nd in Georgia, while the Lions are ranked 11th in North Carolina).

Despite the loss, Morrow had strong showings from Andre Jernigan, who posted eight points, and Jauquez Grimes, who had seven points.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Newnan, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Creekside 70-45 on Saturday. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Cougars just coasted through the last quarter.

Newnan's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.9 points per game. As for Morrow, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-12.

Morrow came up short against Newnan when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 57-44. Can Morrow avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
