Baseball Recap: University School of Jackson Beats Westview for Their Third Straight Win

University School of Jackson took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Westview, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bruins narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Chargers 2-1. The win was nothing new for the Bruins as they're now sitting on three straight.

Braydin Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because University School of Jackson is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

At the plate, Corben Howard was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for University School of Jackson: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise.

University School of Jackson pushed their record up to 9-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Westview, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-3.

University School of Jackson will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Chargers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday.
