Soccer Game Preview: Kempsville vs. Great Bridge

The Kempsville Chiefs will face off against the Great Bridge Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kempsville will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Kempsville is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Virginia's top teams: Ocean Lakes, who was ranked third at the time (Kempsville was ranked 24th). The Chiefs walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Dolphins on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Great Bridge). Their defense stepped up to hand Indian River an 18-0 shutout on Tuesday. Elizabeth Henson was a massive factor in the win as she booted in three goals all by herself.

Great Bridge is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 43 goals over those seven contests. As for Kempsville, they pushed their record up to 9-1-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Kempsville suffered a grim 5-0 defeat to Great Bridge when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Chiefs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
