Football Recap: Concordia Piles Up the Points Against Wellington-Napoleon

It's playoff time, and Concordia had no trouble coming through when it counted. They claimed a resounding 44-14 victory over the Wellington-Napoleon Tigers. The Fighting Orioles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by 25 points or more this season.

Leading Concordia to victory were Nephi Hon and Carson Droege. Hon rushed for 55 yards and four TDs, while Droege gained 125 total yards and a touchdown. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Hon a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Concordia was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 327 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards in eight consecutive contests.

Another reason for the win was Concordia's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Dane Wilckens and Maddix Inman, who racked up all four sacks between them. Lane Hass was another major factor on D, forcing two fumbles, making seven total tackles, and defending one pass.

Concordia has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 48.4 points over those games. As for Wellington-Napoleon, they moved to 9-3 with that loss, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Looking ahead, Concordia will take on Rock Port at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Fighting Orioles will need to watch out since the Blue Jays have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. Wellington-Napoleon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
