Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Washington walked away with it. They walked away with a 49-37 victory over the Princeton Tigers on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Hatchets as they're now sitting on 21 straight.
Washington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Olivia Gilley led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Gilley has posted since back in December of 2023. Katie Reed was another key player, putting up 11 points and five boards.
Washington was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Princeton only racked up four assists.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jemiah Buford, who went 5 of 10 to rack up 10 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Buford is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last nine games she's played. Another player making a difference was Nya Dame, who scored nine points and three steals.
Washington's victory bumped their record up to 23-2. As for Princeton, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-13.
Coming up, Washington will face off against Greensburg at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. One thing working in Greensburg's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games. Princeton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
