Basketball Recap: Samiah Washington's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Jefferson County over FAMU DRS

Jefferson County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost to the FAMU DRS Baby Rattlers at home by a 44-30 margin. The Tigers lost against the Baby Rattlers in their previous head to head back in January of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 48-9 score last time.

Jefferson County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samiah Washington, who posted six points and five steals. Another player making a difference was Haley Schmigel, who earned nine points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead FAMU DRS to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nivre Green, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 20 boards. The dominant performance gave Green a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Queenn Love, who put up 19 points and three steals.

Jefferson County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for FAMU DRS, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7.

Jefferson County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 37-26 loss against Wakulla on the 17th. FAMU DRS will take on Gadsden County in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
