Weslaco lost to McAllen Memorial back in September of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Panthers came out on top against the Mustangs by a score of 31-24. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Chris Luna went supernova, rushing for 74 yards and one score on only nine carries, while also throwing for 91 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget DeAngelo Gonzalez, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

McAllen Memorial's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kane Coy, who rushed for 54 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 132 yards and one touchdown. Another player making a difference was Braxton Speights, who rushed for 131 yards.

Weslaco's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for McAllen Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Weslaco will face off against Laredo LBJ at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for McAllen Memorial, they have already played their next contest, a 38-10 defeat against Johnson on the 11th.
