Softball Recap: Pike County's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Pike County had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out the New Brockton Gamecocks 6-5 on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Gamecocks, too.

Taylor Trawick made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Emmya Moultry was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Kailia Beacham was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Pike County's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-17. As for New Brockton, they dropped their record down to 4-17 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Pike County will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Autauga Academy at 5:00 p.m. The Generals will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. As for New Brockton, they will venture away from home to challenge Straughn at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Gamecocks' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
