Basketball Recap: Academy of the New Church Lions vs. William Penn Charter Quakers
It was a good run, but the Academy of the New Church Lions unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 69-58 to William Penn Charter. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Academy of the New Church has scored all season.
Academy of the New Church lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bahsil Laster, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Laster is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cameron Smith, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Academy of the New Church's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for William Penn Charter, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Academy of the New Church will take on the Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Barrack Hebrew Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 568th, while the Lions are ranked 22nd). As for William Penn Charter, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the at 5:30 p.m. on January 24th. One thing working in Friends Select's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight games.
