Recap: Austintown-Fitch Falcons vs. Kenston Bombers
The Austintown-Fitch Falcons had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They took down Kenston 51-36. Given Austintown-Fitch's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Kenston is ranked 625th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Austintown-Fitch's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rachel Spalding, who scored 19 points. Spalding also scored 15+ points for the first time this season. Destanie Mccullough was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Kenston lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Morgan Cicek, who scored 15 points. Cicek continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aurora Young, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
Kenston struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Austintown-Fitch's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Kenston, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Austintown-Fitch will take on St. Joseph Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Kenston, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Aurora at 7:00 p.m.
