Basketball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Fort Morgan's Fourth in Last Five Outings

The Academy came into Saturday's game looking for another win against Fort Morgan, but Shaelynn Ramirez wouldn't allow it. The Fort Morgan Mustangs really took it to The Academy Wildcats for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-37 victory thanks in part to Ramirez, who went 7 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points. Those 25 points gave her a new career-high.

Brooklyn Coffin was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. She has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Despite the loss, The Academy had strong showings from Ashley Aguirre, who posted nine points and four steals, and Megan Baker, who earned six points.

Fort Morgan has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for The Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Fort Morgan and The Academy could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. Fort Morgan will face off against University at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 152 places (164 vs. 12). Meanwhile, The Academy (ranked 292nd) will meet Colorado Academy (ranked 143rd) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
